HUNTLY is at the heart of Gordon Country.
The town has a charming market square and in the surrounding area you can visit Huntly Castle, Dean’s Shortbread Visitor Centre, Rizza’s ice-cream factory (where you can watch the production processes through giant windows), Glendronach Distillery and the historic Leith Hall with its impressive gardens.
From Leith Hall, it’s a short journey along the B9002 into the Garioch (pronounced Geerie) and a huge jump back in time. At the Archaeolink Prehistory Park in Oyne, you can explore 10,000 years of history.
The outdoor exhibition includes re-created sites such as a Roman marching camp – with activities and demonstrations led by the ancient ancestors. Visit a Bronze Age smithy and discover the magic of molten metal. Step inside an Iron Age roundhouse and farmstead and take part in the workshops and activities.
On the A96 between Huntly and Keith, meet the fastest living creatures on earth at the Huntly Peregrine WildWatch Centre. Peregrine falcons have been clocked at diving speeds of over 200 mph. Thanks to the webcam you can watch the peregrine falcons raising their chicks here, and experts are on hand to give information about peregrine falcons and how to protect them.
